Microsoft January Patch Notification and Apple OS X Update Brings App Store

The New Year has brought the first of the scheduled Security Bulletins for Microsoft, with the Advance Notification for January's release being announced. Two bulletins are scheduled for release, one rated as Critical, and the other as Important.

The first, Important, bulletin is only for windows Vista and deals with core Windows components. The second, Critical, bulletin is for all supported versions of Windows, though it ranges from Important, for server versions, to Critical for non-server versions of Windows. Both bulletins address remote code execution vulnerabilities and are scheduled for release next Tuesday.

Also in the last 24 hours, Apple have released their latest point release for OS X, bringing 10.6 up to 10.6.6, addressing a code execution vulnerability in PackageKit. More significantly, tucked inside this update is the Mac App Store, which brings an iTunes Music Store-like way for Apple users to purchase Macintosh software.
